Roeland Celis (°1993, Tienen, Belgium), is a guitar player and composer based in Brussels. He is active in different projects, covering a broad spectrum of styles and genres.
Improvisation is a very important element in all of his projects. His playing style could be described as guitar- focused, and sometimes technically focused. Trying to blend influences from different rock – and jazz genres into a distinct personality.
Roeland grew up in a musical family. His parents, both of them clasically trained musicians, encouraged him to enroll in the local music academy at the age of 8. Here his musical journey began, during which he developed an interest for the electric guitar, rock music, improvisation and jazz.
At the age of 18, Roeland started studying jazz at the Lemmensinstituut in Leuven. After finishing his bachelor’s degree, he went on to study at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam, and the Conservatory of Antwerp, where he got his master’s degree.
In 2016 Roeland was awarded the BAEF- scholarship. Allowing him to study for one year in New York City in the Aaron Copland School of Music.
All of this gave Roeland the opportunity to meet and play with a lot of very different people and musicians.
Roeland is currently teaching at the conservatorium of Mechelen.
